MEET LAUREN
PHOTOGRAPHER, ARTIST, AND WATER WOMAN.
Hi! I am so glad you’re here! If there is one thing about me, it’s that I bring midwestern charm to LA cool and they meet right in the middle. I was born and raised in Saint Louis, Missouri, but have lived ALL over the country! Minnesota, Florida, Pennsylvania, and now most recently Los Angeles, California- which is lucky for me because I am an ocean girl at heart and a sucker for good tacos and margs! I’m Endlessly inspired by the natural world around me, but I bring a bit of fun to the magic that is there too. I LOVE working in the ocean and actually in large part owe my start in photography to the big blue herself.
I mentioned before that I grew up in Missouri, far far away from the ocean. The first time I ever saw the ocean I was 6 years old and in the most stunning place to experience the beauty of the ocean for the first time- Hawaii! I walked into the water and caught a fish with my hands, and from that moment, I was quite literally hooked on anything ocean related. Growing up I was afforded the ability to travel, and as you can probably guess, those travels led me around the world and into the blue. 16 countries later, I have a well rounded eye for photography and a passion to keep experiencing the world around me. Now, I work in Southern California, photographing the ocean below the surface and on her shores with like minded salty souls. BUT that isn’t all…
Traveling has afforded me a beautiful experience and privilege being able to see the world, but with that came a realization that I hold dear and close to my heart. This Earth is so beautiful and so special. Being able to travel across the world, swim in different seas and climb up different mountains, has reflected nature in me and myself in nature. Nature is so beautifully intertwined with humanity. I have witnessed destruction from climate change across the faces of a coral reef, leaving life to be a scarce sight. I have seen the eradication of the forest that surrounded my childhood home, and around it a development that destroyed the ecosystems that kept the ground fertile, the trees ripe with fruit for the animals that no longer come. The delicate balance of modern living and environmental advocacy can be incredibly difficult, which is why I’ve made it my goal to work with ethical and conscious brands, to promote ethical consumerism, and create artwork with the intention of bringing some of nature’s magic back into the mainstream and closer to home than ever.
Photography is more than just a couple of camera clicks, or trying to get “the vibe”. It’s all of that and then some. To me, it’s telling a story with a passion, to connect the senses by appealing to a larger purpose which is to advocate for living in tune with nature, and there for in tune with ourselves. By promoting a more sustainable form of consumerism, it advocates for the planet and humanity. If you’re overwhelmed by the climate crisis as a small business owner or brand that is looking to incorporate a more purposeful process of telling your story, Welcome. I am so glad to meet you!
